I am disabled and bedbound and had the most amazing cat, who was my soulmate. He was a Ragdoll named Doodle. He had the cutest crooked face marking and a perfect smile. He was the best cat in the world and everybody knew it. Someone close to me told me to clone him while he was still alive so he could meet a cloned version himself. I had read a lot of sci-fi books about cloning and I decided to do it. What I didn’t know was that Doodle would soon be diagnosed with terminal cancer and would pass away before he could meet his clone. I was beyond devastated, but the thought of a little Doodle on the way kept me hopeful. Even though I knew it could be a very different cat, it would still be a part of my boy.
Exactly 1 year after I started the cloning process, I received Rumbler, Doodle’s clone. He is almost exactly like Doodle. He has the same crooked face mask and the same wonderful smile. He has mostly the same personality, even down to the littlest quirks. The biggest difference: It seems like Rumbler is just a little friendlier than Doodle, probably due to his upbringing. He is the light of my life. He sleeps with me every night. All of my other cats love him just as much as I do. I can’t wait to wake up every morning to see what day we will have together!
I really feel like I’ve made not only friends but also family with the people at ViaGen Pets throughout this process. They sent such amazing pictures along the way.
Rumbler couldn’t be more Doodle-y. It feels like Doodle is inside Rumbler so I don’t have to miss him as much anymore. The first day I got him he knew his name and he came when I snapped my fingers. This is just one example of many little things that are so strange for him to know as a kitten so soon after his arrival. I know this won’t be everybody’s experience, but for the rest of my life I want to have a Doodle clone by my side.
